Mesotherapy is a treatment that traditionally involves injecting a combination of vitamins, minerals, or medications into the mesoderm, which is the layer of skin beneath the epidermis. At Hair Vista we use a variation of this technique to address various types of hair loss. Our clinicians believe that Dutasteride, which is an FDA-approved oral drug, can be an effective off label injection treatment for hair loss. Dutasteride functions by blocking the alpha reductase enzyme that produces the hormone dihydrotestosterone (DHT), which is responsible for hair loss in men and women.

Mesotherapy with Dutasteride in West Palm Beach can be used to treat the androgenic type of hair loss while reducing systemic absorption in the body. By injecting Dutasteride directly into the scalp, the drug can be delivered precisely to the hair follicles where it is needed. This approach minimizes the amount of medication absorbed into the bloodstream, thereby reducing the risk of side effects associated with DHT-blockers. To get superior results, the clinicians at Hair Vista provide all Mesotherapy injections after a comprehensive examination of the scalp with the microscope to determine areas that need to be treated (max. drug amount is limited) and the depth of injection.

Injection Technique

Injection technique varies per individual and areas treated. In certain cases, the clinician will combine Mesotherapy with PRP or exosomes. This combination therapy enhances the results of all of these treatments as they are synergistic.

Dutasteride Mesotherapy FAQ

Dutasteride we use for intradermal injection is manufactured by an FDA licensed compounding pharmacy. The right compound is suspended in oil (depo) and doesn’t have any other additives. Beware of dutasteride that is sold without a prescription by an unapproved facility. Depending on the patient needs, the compounded dutasteride will come as a 0.1mg/ml or 0.5mg/ml solution. Dutasteride for hair restoration is an Rx medication, prescribed specifically for each patient, for medical professional/office use only. Dutasteride in a saline solution cannot be used for mesotherapy safely or effectively.

The purpose of Dutasteride Mesotherapy in West Palm Beach is to block the formation of DHT (dihydrotestosterone) in the scalp and hair follicles. DHT is the primary trigger for hair follicle miniaturization in the androgenic type of hair loss, otherwise known as AGA or Androgenic Alopecia. By reducing the amount of DHT in the scalp the follicles are able to restart the repair process and revert to producing thicker and healthier hair. Since Dutasteride is injected topically at a very precise dose, the possible side effects are greatly minimized.

Dutasteride Mesotherapy is a hair growth therapy that uses the FDA-approved medication Dutasteride (Avodart) in a sterile injectable form (oil depo) applied directly into the scalp during an in-office session. The procedure is aided with laughing gas and a Zimmer cryo skin chiller so there the pain or discomfort are minimal. The Dutasteride solution is injected superficially under the skin at the level of the hair follicle (2-4mm) for the purpose of  blocking the formation of DHT dihydrotestosterone in the scalp and hair follicles, which leads to the reduction of inflammation and hair regrowth.

Mesotherapy with Dutasteride is typically performed by a hair loss medical professional or dermatologist, who injects small amounts of Dutasteride into the scalp using a very fine and short needle. The number of sessions required depends on the severity of the hair loss and the individual’s response to treatment. Treatments are normally spaced two-three months apart for a total of three-four sessions.

  • A study published in the Journal of Cutaneous and Aesthetic Surgery examined the effectiveness of Mesotherapy with Dutasteride for the treatment of Androgenetic Alopecia, which is male-pattern hair loss. The study included 20 male patients who received six sessions of Mesotherapy with Dutasteride over six months. The treatment led to a significant increase in hair density and thickness, with minimal side effects.
  • Another study published in the International Journal of Trichology compared the effectiveness of Mesotherapy with Dutasteride to oral Dutasteride for the treatment of Androgenetic Alopecia. The study involved 60 male patients who were randomly assigned to receive either Mesotherapy with Dutasteride or oral Dutasteride for six months. Both treatments resulted in a significant improvement in hair density and thickness, but patients who received Mesotherapy with Dutasteride had fewer side effects.

  • Finasteride is an oral FDA-approved medication for hair loss that blocks the type 2 5AR enzyme, reducing DHT enough to produce a 90% success rate in men suffering from AGA.
  • Dutasteride blocks two subtypes/isoforms of 5AR, producing an even more powerful reduction in DHT than finasteride. Another important difference is the fact that Dutasteride has a much longer half-life in the body—which is the main reason that Dutasteride is uniquely suited for a localized mesotherapy application into the scalp. Additionally, Dutasteride has a larger molecular weight and size than finasteride which also may help its beneficial effects locally at the scalp.
  • The half-life (a measure of the amount of time it takes for the drug to be eliminated from the body) of finasteride is significantly shorter than Dutasteride.

In Conclusion

Mesotherapy with Dutasteride is a promising treatment for hair loss. It is a targeted approach that reduces the risk of side effects associated with oral and topical medications.
